This is fascinating First World War dated 1907 Pattern bayonet with scabbard for SMLE rifle. It was made by Sanderson in February 1917 and survived the Great War being subject to four further inspection is 1922, 1928, 1934 and 1938. The crucial date is 1938, this indicates that this bayonet was ready for service before the outbreak of WWII. The visible markings on the pommel are "DEP" WS? 312 D?" DEP= Depot, WS most likely West Surrey Regiment or West Sussex Regiment - of which parts of both regiments were involved at Dunkirk. The locking mechanism is missing almost certainly through service use. It is quite plausible that this bayonet saw service with the BEF in 1939 suffering the damage to the pommel at Dunkirk? If only it could talk? The pitting and corrision to the unprotected metal parts of the bayonet and scabbard would indicate they've seen salt water!
