Vetterli M1870/87 Bolt Action Rifle

This is a Vetterli Model 1870/87, chambered in 10.35mm - obsolete calibre. As rifle technology improved the Italian army introduced a conversion programme to update its stocks of M1870 rifles into a four-shot repeating rifles. A fixed four shot box magazine was added that was loaded using a charging loading clip. This example was made in 1882 at the Torino Arsenal and has a low serial number of A2249. During WW1 about 4600 of these rifles plus ammunition and bayonets where smuggled into the North of Ireland in by the U.V.F.
Chambered in an obsolete calibre, it can be owned live without any form of license. It has a full working action and can be cocked, stripped and dry fired. The bore is in good condition.
