This is a genuine WW2 M24 Stick Grenade fitted with an SS fragmentation sleeve. There were only two types of M24 fragmentation sleeves used during WW2. The standard and most common is the Heeres model which has segmentations and a steel securing ring. The SS model was a far simpler design, a steel sleeve that could slide over the M24 canister and was only held on by the friction and tension created by the sleeve. They are also slightly shorter than  the canister. This example has clearly been attached to the canister since the war. Just visible on the canister is the maker code  ЯR 710 date of 1940 for Carl Winzerling K.G, Schloßfabrik. Volmarstein a.d. Ruhr.  The wooden handle is dated 1942 and was made by "evy" = Wilhelm von Hagen Metallwarenfabrik, Iserlohn Westfalen. It also features the screw on cap that still retains the spring that held the paper washer in place. This was omitted from the design in 1943.

The "Stielhandgranate" or hand stick grenade was the standard infantry grenade used throughout WW2. Often nicked named the "Potato Masher" by troops.
