Final Year of Production - Schmidt Rubin Rifle (Model 1889)

This is a rare final year of production Swiss military, Schmidt Rubin Rifle (Model 1889), with all matching numbers that dates to 1897. Serial numbers that year ran from 208001 to 212000, with just 3,999 rifles made - by far the fewest of all the years that it was in production!! The rifle is number 210089 meaning it is number 2,088th from that final batch!!! It is also regimentally marked on the receiver ".10 over P31". 

 

This unique looking rifle has a very clever straight pull action. The Schmidt-Rubin was the first straight-pull bolt action service rifle of any nation. The straight-pull action relied upon an actuating rod, set in a channel to the right of the breech, to rotate the bolt though a helical channel cut in the bolt sleeve. Twin locking lugs were positioned midway through the bolt sleeve, locking the bolt into the receiver directly above the trigger. This action allows the operator to eject the spent cartridge in one motion, and push the bolt forward to chamber a round, cock the striker, and lock the action. Very advanced for its time. Service rifle competition between the various major military powers proved that the Schmidt Rubin was the most accurate of all of the classic, smokeless powder, bolt action service rifles. 

This rifle is of an obsolete calibre (7.5mm x 53.5) and can therefore be owned live without any form of license. The bore is in great condition throughout. It has a full working action and can be cocked, stripped and dry fired. Comes with an original muzzle cover.
