This is a Yugoslav military M24/47 rifle. In the aftermath of WWII Yugoslavia started a programme of rearmament using WWII German K98 receivers, barrels and parts left by the Nazis as well as newly manufactured parts. The original German markings were scrubbed off the receiver and replaced by the Yugoslav Crest. Note the rough machining marks on the receiver where the German markings once were. These rifles were then designated as the M24/47. M24 being the original designation used on pre WWII Yugo rifles and the 47 to identify the year it was refurbished. On the stock are the initials 1.TRZ, a former Yugoslavian refurb facility. As can be seen on this rifle, the emphasis was to produce serviceable weapons quickly. The old serial numbers on previously used parts were simply struck out and the new number applied. This example has all matching numbers including the bolt and is deactivated with a working action.
