This is a genuine First World War Imperial German Army contract Mauser C96 pistol. This rare and untouched example bears the correct German army acceptance stamps on the right side of the receiver and at the rear of the frame below the serial number - a very small cyrillic letter D. WWI C96's fall into the known serial number range of 290,000 to 440,000, this example is number 355,073 and dates to 1916. All visible numbers are matched including both grips and the floor plate base. This along makes this a rare find however, this one was made without a shoulder stock stock, and is among only a handful known to have been made this way.  A rare survivor from the Great War, and those that did survive were back in service during the Weimar period and later with Nazi's.
