This is a great example of a WWII US M1 Garand Rifle. Manufactured by Springfield Armory, the serial number dates it to March 1942. Incredibly at this stage of WW2 having declared war on Japan in December 1941, the Springfield Armory production was still relatively low with only 44,275 rifles made in the month of March 1942. This rifle being one them.
No single long arm is more closely identified with the U.S. World War II infantryman than the rifle sometimes called "the last true butt stroker." The M-1 Garand's sturdy, 10-pound stock, unlike those of its successors, was heavy enough to deliver a lethal blow to an adversary. The Garand was issued to US troops fighting in Europe and against the Japanese. Whilst fighting the Japanese, the districtive metallic ping caused by the M1's empty clip ejecting from the rifle was soon recognised by Japanese troops as a chance attack whilst the rifle was being reloaded. However US troops soon realised this and would deliberately drop empty clips encouraging an ill fated attack!!!
Deactivated to current specifications. This Garand is available and is currently at the proof house being certificated.
