Deactivated WW2 Lanchester MK1

This is a WWII British Royal Navy issued Lanchester Submachine gun, MK1. Dated 1942 with broad arrow and military acceptance stamps. The MKI was fitted with same rear sights that was used on the De Lisle carbine. These weapons were more or less a direct copy of the German Bergmann MP28 submachine gun and were very well made. The Lanchester was intended to be the standard issue British submachine gun but was to expensive to make. The Sten was its replacement. They were predominately issued to the British Royal Navy with small quantities also used by the RAF for guarding aerodromes. They were only manufactured during WWII with relatively small amounts produced. The initials "SA" on the magazine housing denote that this one was manufactured by Sterling with this mark only found on early production examples. The serial number indicates that it is gun number 6,031st. The first 50,000 Lanchester's were issued to the British Navy. Deactivated with a working action.
