This is a pre WW2 French model of 1892 revolver - military issue. Often but incorrectly referred to as a  "Lebel" . The M1892 was a revolutionary military revolver in terms of design, replacing the MAS 1873 that was the current French military service sidearm. Note the cylinders hinge out to the right. This was to make loading easier and quicker as most soldiers were right handed. This example is dated 1922 and is from the very last batch made before production ceased in 1924. All French military issued M1892's are dated and have the manufactures name on the right hand side of the frame, and they only used letter prefixes F,G,H, I, and L. This revolver may have been issued to the Navy or used by French Partisan forces during WW2, this may explain its overall condition. To this day caches of weapons are still being discovered in barns and out buildings in France, being hinden by resistance groups whilst under Nazi occupation. Deactivated with a working action.
