This is a First World War Austrian Steyr Hahn M1912 automatic pistol, chambered in 9mm dated 1917 with matching numbers, including barrel. It has WWI Military / Government acceptance stamps, "WN 17" meaning Wiener-Neustadt 1917, with the Habsburg eagle. The serial number 8281s falls int the known range for that years production for Austro-Hungarian military contracted pistols. The pistol was loaded from a stripper clip, as opposed to using a removable magazine. The barrel rotated on recoil to unlock, a design still used by several modern handguns. They were issued to the Austro-Hungarian army who fought along side German forces during WWI. Many being used during WWII as well. Only around 300,000 or so were ever made, many being lost to the horrendous condition during WWI. A classic WWI axis forces officers pistol. Some were also used during WWII by the Nazis. Deactivated with a working action.
