Deactivated WW1 German Gew88 Rifle Double Regimental markings

This is a double regimentally marked WW1 German Gew 88 rifle. (Gewehr modell 1888) or “Komissiongewehr” (Commission rifle). Manufactured by Spandau, it is dated 1892 with the correct German Imperial army acceptance markings. The G88 was developed by a group of officers from GewehrPrufungsKomission (GPK, or Rifle testing commission of German army). This rifle is modified and adapted for the 7,9mm S-patrone ammunition, and is appropriately stamped with letter “S”. The G88 was eventually replaced by the Gew98, but remained in service until the end of the First World War. The first set of struck-out barrel band regimental markings read "2.G.G.R.R.E.2.145"  which is an abbreviation for the 2nd Guards Grenadier Reserve Regiment, 2nd Ersatz Battalion, weapon number 145, and the second set are "K.F.R.11.160" which is the 11th Kaiser Gerde-Grenadier Regiment, weapon number 160. The 2nd Guards Grenadier Reserve Regiment spent the entirety of WW1 on the Western Front seeing action during some of the most famous battles including the Somme and Passchendaele to name but a few and the Kaiser Gerde-Grenadier Regiment also saw extensive service during the Great War.

Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
