This is a First World War manufactured Schmidt Rubin M1911 infantry rifle. 1915 saw just 22,000 of these rifle produced. Serial numbers ran from 374,001 to 396,000. This rifle is number 392, 034 meaning it is rifle number 18,033rd from that years production. Although Switzerland remained neutral during WW1 it did have difficulties with its borders and neighboring countries. Germany wanted to use it as a means of trying to outflank the French fortifications. And from late 1914 until the spring of 1918, Swiss troops were deployed in the Jura region along the French border over concern that the war might spill into Switzerland. This rifle has matching numbers to barrel, receiver, bolt and magazine and does show clear signs of being in service. Deactivated with a working action, it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
