This is a very rare WWII BSA manufactured Welrod MKII suppressed pistol chambered in .32 (7.65mm). The Welrod was developed by Station 9, a secret British department who were reponsible for producing various types of special weapons and munitions during WWII for use by the SOE and the SAS. It was designed to be used at extreme close quarters, for example during assassinations or neutralising sentries. It is a very simple but clever design with sets of baffles housed within the body to silence the sound of the fired round. The magazine forms the grip and it utilises a very simple manual bolt action for firing. Only around 14,000 were ever made. This example has a very low two digit serial number and a broad arrow acceptance stamp on the rear of the cocking piece. At least one Welrod was taken by SAS Land Rover columns into Iraq during Desert Storm and rumoured to still be in used as recently as the 1991 during the Gulf War. Deactivated with a working action.
