A truly unique peice of Second World War aviation history. This is a Luftwaffe MG131 machine gun recoverd from a crashed figher. The two distinctive cylinders either side of the receiver were only used on fixed mounted guns as seen on the Focke-Wolf FW-190 (known colloqiually as the "Butcher Bird") which had a pair of MG131's synchronized (interrupter gear) to fire through the propellor blades. The damage sustained to this gun is irrefutable proof that this came down with the fighter it was fitted to. This example was made by Rheinmetall who designed the MG131, producing them for the Luftwaffe from 1940 until 1945. This fascinating example would be would be centre piece for a Luftwaffe or WW2 aviation display.
