Deactivated Sauer M1919 Transitional model

This is a Sauer Model of 1919 - variant 2 transitional pistol. Although clearly a second variant the serial number 43,421 falls into the third variant block. The 2nd variant ran from serial numbers 30,200 to 43,000 after which the safety lever was equipped with a nose which is used to lock the slide in its rear position. In addition the slide had a small notch milled out to accommodate this modification. This pistol has neither of these features and would appear to be one of a few that were already made to the previous design. The serial number is just 241 past the known change over. An estimated 12,800 of this variant were made with this one being an enigma within this  batch. It dates to the mid 1920s. Deactivated with a working action.
