This is a rare First World War dated SMLE No1 MKIII* rifle that was manufactured by S.S.A. Standard Small Arms was a company founded during the First World War with the primary aim to supply complete rifles, namely SMLE's to the British Government's War Department to help supplement the output of Enfield , BSA and LSA. However, the company never achieved its goal of producing large numbers of rifles and only managed to make around 200,000 in total during WWI. A tiny amount in rifle terms. This example has its matching barrel dated 1917. Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
