This Martini Henry MKII rifle was originally made by BSA for the British army in 1877 being chambered in the might .577/450 cartridge. The Martini Henry came to great notoriety when used at Rorke's Drift during the Anglo-Zulu War in January 1879. This rifle pre-dates this by two year. There are accounts from this battle stating that at close quarters the .577 round fired from the Martini would pass through several charging Zulu warriors before stopping!!  After the introduction of the bolt action rifle large quantities of surplus military Martini's were sold off and later converted in small bore rifles for cadet training and the civilian markets. This rifle was converted by W.W. Greener for the National Rifle Association and still retains many of its original military marked parts. A great many had the original receiver markings removed, thankfully this one still has its. Deactivated with a working action.
