This is a scarce WW2 Japanese Type 26 revolver, circa 1931. The Type 26 was first adpoted into Imperial Japanese military service in 1894 and saw extensive service through both World Wars. Considering its lengthy military service life production numbers were very low with only an estimated 59,900 ever made. This example is number 55,244 and looks to have suffered catastrophic damage to the cylinders causing them to split in two prior to their repair. The Type 26 had a great reputation for build quality hense their extensive service life within the Japanese military. Japense officers and NCO's were still armed them up until their surrender in 1945. The Type 26 is one of the only revolvers that was also used to fire grenades in conjunction with the Type 90 tear gas grenade launcher, using a special 9x22mm cartridge. Perhaps the repair was sufficient that it be used for this application? Structurally the revolver is fine and the cylinders index when the trigger is pulled. The cylindres have been carefully brazed back together are structurally sound. Deactivated to current specifications with clear chambers.
