This is a superb example of a Second World War Japanese Nambu type 14 pistol. Unlike the vast majority this one retains its original factory matching grips and magazine. The pistols date code is July 1943 as the year of manufacture. The type 14 was designed by Japanese general Kijiro Nambu in 1925 (14th year of the Taisho emperor, hence the official designation). It was adopted by the Imperial Japanese Army and used widely throughout the Second World War, and was the standard issue Army sidearm. The first symbol in front of this number is the Nagoya Arsenal mark. Next to it is the Japanese Katakana (phonetic) symbal in a circle. On the other side of the slide are the four characters for the model designation, they are ju-yon-nen-shiki , meaning type 14.  July 1943 saw major offensives by Allied troops against Japanese forces, with United States Marines "Island hoping" in an attempt to take strategic airfields from occupied islands. These islands were vital and strategic for communications and later for Allied bombing. A great many Nambu pistols were taken as war trophies by US servicemen. Deactivated to current specifications with moving slide/bolt and trigger. The magazine can be removed.
