This is a mid First World War dated Imperial German army issued Gew98 rifle. Dated 1916, it was manufactured by Amberg and carries the correct military acceptance stamps, and still retains its original factory matching numbered woodwork. On the right side of the woodwork below the bolt are six very deliberate notches cut into the wood. This macabre type of marking is closely assocoiated with a kill tally. The overall condition of the rifle is of one that has definitely seen active service with plenty of blemishes and battle scares. Included with the rifle but pictured is an original cleaning rod. Deactivated with a working action
