This is a rare Webley MK2 .455 British issued revolver. The MK2 was first introduced in 1984, and approved by the Government into military service the following year. It had a relavitely sort production life that saw just 23,000 produced. The lowest known serial number is 39,869 and this example is number 44,794 meaning it is around gun number 4,925th. It has the correct period "WD" war department and broad arrow acceotance stamps and retains its factory matching numbers to the frame, barrel and cylinders. The issue numbers "V.677" & "G9570" indicate that it was issued at least twice whilst in service. After military service is was then sold out of service for private purchase. The MK2's were used by British officers during the Second Boer War 1899 to 1902 and a few saw service during WW1.
