This is one only an estimated 25,000 SMLE rifles that were converted by Enfield from .303 to .22. This example was originally made by them in 1917 for use during WW1. In the early 1920s small batches were selected for conversion to .22 for use as military training rifles, and in 1926 these rifles were officially re-designated as the "No2 MKIV". This one was converted in 1933 and retains its matching .22 bolt, receiver, barrel and nose cap. During WW2, as demand for serviceable 303 rifles increased, quantities of these .22 rifles were then re-assigned to Home Guard units. The rifle can still be fitted with a standard 1907 pattern bayonet. Post WW2 this rifle continued in military service and received a further upgrade in 1951. A very rare SMLE that saw service during both world wars and beyond!!! Deactivated with a working action.
