This is a rare British Royal Navy issued Webley MK4 .455 revolver. This model is most commonly referred to as the "Boer War Model" where it saw wide spread use predominantly by Briitsh officers during the Second Boer War in South Africa from 1899 to 1902. The MK4 was first introduced into service in 1899 with just 36,756 delivered to the War Department between 1899 to 1904. The earliest known serial number is 77,503, this revolver is number 84,125 meaning it is around gun number 6,622nd. MK4 revolvers that were procured by the Royal Navy can be easiler identified by the large broad arrow cut into the top strap of the frame. This revolver would have been in service during WW1 and possibly WW2 after which it was sold out of service. Incredible it still retains its original factory matching numbers, grips and lanyard hoop.
