This is an all matching numbers US Civil War era Whitney Navy Colt 1851 percussion revolver, chambered in .36. As the name suggests the Whitney is based on the Colt 1851 Navy revolver. After Colt's patent expired 1857 this opened the doors for gun makers to use Colt's design patents and copy his guns. Whitney was an early competitor to Colt and produced three models of the 1851 Navy, this example being the Second model 1st type purchased and used during the US Civil War. The very low serial number of 509 would indicate it to be a very early production gun made circa 1857 to 1858. Only 1,200 of this model are estimated to have been made. In total Whitney are estimated to have made just 33,000 Navy revolvers from the late 1850s until 1860s. This figure includes all known variants. The Whitney Navy was purchase by the army and navy and by various states during the conflict. It proved to be a very reliable and robust sidearm. The "Navy" designation of this gun is merely a term used due to its calibre of .36. They were used by both land and sea forces.  A rare survivor that has remained intact for some 167 years!!

This example has a lovely patina to the finish and is chambered in an obsolete calibre it can be owned live without any form of license.

It is being sold as a collectors piece only.It can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
