An 1815 Flintlock carbine. The lock is marked to the British East India Company. It is dated 1815 with the lion logo and number 2 under crown proof stamp. The wood work has a lovely deep grain with hand cut cheqering to the pistol grip. The action is firm and locks back of half and full cock. The barrel is 26 iches (66cm) in length. 1813 saw the East India Company take control of all of India putting huge strain on its finances. This caused unrest with local and natives communities. Arming its employees to protect its assets was one the way the EIC dealt with this situation. These weapons were also used by the rich and wealthy for game hunting. This musket would be an ideal wall or centre piece. Comes fitted with ram rod and with flint and leather.
