This is a WWII American made Browning 1919A4 .30 calibre light machine gun with a 1945 dated M-2 tripod with pintle. Saginaw Steering Gear Division only manufactured 30 cal's during WWII with production ending in June 1945. The serial number of this one dates to 1941-42 production and bears the correct US military ordnance and inspection stamps. The thirty cal, as it was named by US troops, was the main light machine gun of world war two. It was very versatile and could be a vehicle mounted weapon (tank, jeep, armoured vehicle etc) or as an infantry support weapon mounted on a tripod. The safety bar fitted to this example was commonly associated with guns that were fitted to a tank or AFV (Armoured Fighting Vehicles).  The 30 cal saw action in all US military engagements throughout WWII, and are still in use today.

Included is 50 inert .3006 rounds with 250 round canvas belt, Reeves ammunition box and 1944 dated cleaning pouch with rods and brushes. A great set.
