Product Information

A rare First World War British Army Portable Trench Telephone complete with carry case, battery pack / Morse code key / receiver, hand set and ear piece and cords. The case and strap are both made by Martins-Birmingham and dated 1918. The hand set was made by S.B&Co. Ltd , dated 1916 and has its receiver with ear piece, mouth piece with folding flap, a separate ear piece with its leather shroud and straps. The battery container is maker marked Sterling and is also 1916 with a Broad Arrow acceptance stamp, and has the phone cords and Morse key and even the original carry strap. It is rare to find such a complete example. Very few now exist. The leather carry case is in great condition was all buckles and fastens in tact.

This phone would have been issued again during WWII. Just visible on the the ear piece leather cover, hand written is the date 1940 and initials WD. There is evidence of a regiment abbreviation on the front bottom corner, the most obvious being  "B 2". Possible meaning B Company or 2nd Battalion?
