Civil War veteran Major George W. Schofield worked closely with Smith & Wesson to modify their 1870 Model 3 Revolver for military use. Schofield's design fitted a simple thumb operated top latch to the frame to break open the revolver and extract the empty shells for ease in reloading on horseback. The hard-riding troopers of the U.S. cavalry on the Great Plains and embattled Cossacks on the steppes of Central Asia depended on powerful Smith & Wesson Top-Break revolvers. A superb boxed example made by Uberti. It is deactivated with a full working action and can be cocked, stripped and dry fired. A real stunner, it would make a fantasic addition to any collection.
