In 1960 two entrepreneurs based in San Ramon, California, Robert Mainhardt and Art Biehi, started a company called MB Associates and began experimenting with alternative weapon technology. They felt that the present handgun technology had reached its development peak, and sought a revolutionary change. The result of their experiments is the weapon shown here, which although looks at first glance very much like an orthodox self-loading pistol was, in fact, a rocket-launcher. It is in a 13mm calibre, the rounds it launched contained their propellant inside a stubby cartridge that stayed with the projectile in flight. It comes with one round
Only one thousand were ever produced between 1960 and 1969.It was used in the James Bond Film "You Only Live Twice". This is believed to be the only deactivated example in the UK and should take pride of place in any collection. It comes in its wooden box (the interior is a bit tatty) and one inert round ............or should I say rocket?. The round can be put in the pistol and ejected. Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked and dry fired. Probably the only example of the rare pistol you will ever have the opportunity to own. Cheaper than a WWI Luger rig and much rarer!
