Product Information

This is an early Second World War German MG34 machine gun Lafette. The makers mark on the carriage is S323 within a triangle - Brandenburger Fahrrad und Motorradwerk, Excelsior and correct Waffenamt stamps followed by the serial number 1030 with no letter suffix. Meaning it is number 1030th. The search fire mechanisms were not matched or made by the same companies as the Lafette makers, and instead sub-contacted to specialist manufacturers. This one was made by Heinrich H Klussendorf Werkzeuge, Berlin-Spandau in 1940 using the early makers code '30' .The forward leg bears another early makers mark S652 within a triangle - Metallindustrie Schonebeck A.G.

As is to be expected these early examples saw extensive and heavy use, being used throughout the war on all fronts and in all conditions. Lafette's were often repainted in the field depending on where they were being used, as can be clearly seen with this example. The lafette has suffered damage and wear during its service life and is missing the bracket below the search -fire chart that secures the carriage when folded down. The front leg catch is also worn and does not hold the leg when folded down. We have pictured these parts. In both cases they can be repaired and we have reflected this in the price. When set up with an MG34 fitted it works perfectly and is fully adjustable, able to traverse and elevate as normal. A great item to display an MG34 with. Included are two leather carry straps.
