Product Information

This is a rare First World War Issued German Reich Revolver in stunning original condition with all matching numbers, dated 1882. The M1879 Reichsrevolver, or Reichs-Commissions-revolver Modell 1879, was the standard service revolver used by the German Army from 1879 to 1908, before the PO8 Luger was adopted replacing it. These huge revolvers were extremely robust and chamber a mighty 10.6mm round. Often favoured by front line troops as it was far less prone to stoppages (unlike the Luger) and had formidable stopping power. They were used throughout WWI and even WWII, Luftwaffe pilots were known to use them. Interestingly it can chamber the Russian .44 S&W ammunition. It comes with an even rarer original brown leather holster, marked F.W.KINKEL, Mainz which looks to be double dated 1912 then over stamped 1913. Under the flap are what look to be unit markings. Note the armourers repair to the flap. A very good indication that this holster saw active service and needed repair before being re issued.

The revolver is manufactured by V.C. Schilling & Cie, Spangenberg & Sauer C.G. Haenel & Cie, this lovely example has a beautiful patina to the finish with correct German imperial inspection stamps and is regimentally marked with the initials B.3.R.A.6.26. Again like the holster this revolver has also been issued then re issued, with two sets of regimentally markings. A number 1 can been seen over stamped with a 3, and what looks to be a 4 covered by the 6. The Letter R looks to be crossed out and also shows evidence of a previous letter or number beneath. From these markings we believe it was possible issued to an artillery unit and /or regiments medial officer (R.A. an abbreviation for Regimentisarzt - Regiment Medical Officer) , that being crossed out the letter A was most commonly used to abbreviate Artillery. Definitely worthy of  further research.

Chambered in an obsolete calibre (10.6mm) it can be owned live without any form of license. The bore and cylinder are both in super condition. It can be cocked, fully stripped and dry fired. The action is crisp and tight.
