Product Information

Deactivated WWII Maxim Machine gun with Sokolov Wheeled Carriage. Dated 1942 with matching numbers on almost every part of the gun. Invented by Hiram Maxim in 1883, this was the first true heavy machine gun. It was capable of firing 500 rounds per minute. This example was originally produced in Russia in the 1930's, it was used by the Russian Army in 1939, in there failed and humiliating attempt to recover the Grand Duchy of Finland territory lost during the Russian Civil War in 1917. Finish forces captured this Maxim and re stamped it "SA", the property marking of the Finnish Army. It also has what look to be Finnish unit markings on the barrel water jacket (SII.JA) .The letter S was used to denote Civil Guard. Definitely worthy of some further research. During WWII Finland sided with Nazi Germany, and was only one of three European capitals that were never occupied, Moscow, London and Helsinki. A very interesting piece of WWII history. Deactivated with a working action, it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired. Would make a great centre piece to a collection.
